Indore : The water tax collection drive of IMC that was launched following instructions of Mayor KM Moghe ended on Tuesday with an estimated collection of Rs3 crore.

It was found that the IMC had earlier set the target of generating at least Rs25cr from the drive but till the concluding day it could manage only Rs15cr, which is a little over the half target. However, the higher officials at the IMC seemed content to what has been achieved from the drive.

It is to be noted that the Mayor in the budget 2014 declared to waive dues of water taxes till 2012 and launched a planned drive to collect the pending amounts from residents. The plan was to collect all the dues and start from the scratch. Hence, a target of Rs 25cr was set and the drive was initiated. But till the last day of the drive, the set target wasn’t met.

If sources are to be believed then the IMC top officials after calculating the day’s collection and going through total taxes collected during the drive were found saying that they tried their best but the target couldn’t be achieved. However, if the efforts put in by the IMC officials by means of installing banners and other expenditures in the view to spread the word about the drive than the ‘achieved’ success may found to be even minimised.

It was said that the basic motto of waiving taxes was to be collect and generate revenue from the ones who never paid taxes but the target audience didn’t come to the IMC to make the due payments.
