Indore : If sewerage and drainage water of colonies and townships will flow into water bodies of the city, the coloniser concerned will have to face the music.
The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will not only cancel licence of the builder’s colony but also take legal action against the culprit.
In a meeting to review preparedness of the IMC to deal with up-coming monsoon, Municipal Commissioner Manish Singh instructed officers to take strict action against the builders’ whose colonies are releasing sewerage and drainage water into water bodies.
Singh said that the IMC would revoke the licence of the colonies and townships if they were found to be polluting water bodies.
The issue came for a discussion when the civic officials informed the commissioner that Silicon City, a posh township in the outskirts of the city, is releasing untreated sewerage water into Bilawali pond.
Moved by the information, the commissioner constituted a two-member panel comprising City Engineer Ashok Sharma and Daulat Singh Gudia and directed it to carry out spot verification. The panel was also directed to survey the area to establish if any other colony also doing the same.
Singh also directed the IMC officials to issue a notice to the builder of Silicon City directing him to stop releasing sewerage water into the pond in next 15 days or else the IMC will revoke the licence of the township.
As per norms, the townships/colonies have to construct sewerage treatment plant (STP) on its premises but the rules are not followed.
In March 2015, the district administration had issued reminder stating that construction of STP is mandatory for the colonies and townships developed over more than two hectare of land.
