Indore : Finally, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has decided to lift garbage from the city on five days a week– Monday to Friday. The new action would start from this Monday. However, for the remaining two days, a corporator may ask for equipment and conduct cleanliness drive in his area.

Lately, fumed over negligent and laidback attitude of A2Z officials, the IMC has adopted several measures to sideline A2Z (agency involved in lifting garbage). Lifting garbage from city localities is also one such measure. As per the plan, the civic authority from tomorrow would lift garbage from one ward of a zone in a day. The IMC would take up one ward from one zone and would clean it in a day. This way it would clean 85 wards.

“We will opt for one zone-one ward in a day. In this way, we would complete 95 wards efficiently. But as we only have 85 wards, we’d have a few surplus days and will definitely concentrate those days on zones that have more number of wards,” In-charge of Cleanliness and Solid Waste Management Department Rajendra Rathore told Free Press.

Rathore added that cleanliness drive is named as ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’. The IMC would make use of all latest equipment including JCBs, Dumpers and pokelane machine. In addition, close to 25 staffers of the IMC would be deployed in wards on the day of Abhiyan to make it a success. Meanwhile, the drive is openly welcomed by one and all. Meanwhile, the role of A2Z hasn’t changed. Rathore said, “The drive wouldn’t affect A2Z’s working as whatever the company is doing, it can continue. The IMC would use its own machinery and staff and thus the role of A2Z wouldn’t be affected” Rathore added.
