Indore : A day after residents of Champabagh area staged a chakka jam at Jawahar Marg over the demolition drive, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Friday decided to carry out demarcation in the locality once again in front of the protesting residents.
Till the demarcation is done again, the IMC suspended the demolition drive which was underway for the past three days.
On Thursday, residents of Champabagh had staged a road block alleging that the IMC was even knocking down legal structures. They have also claimed that the IMC drive is biased as select persons’ establishments have been spared from the drive. In a meeting with the district administration officers on Friday, IMC stated that some residents have doubts on the demarcation being carried out.
The IMC observed that it would be inappropriate to go ahead with the removal drive without clearing their doubts and decided not to carry out the demolition drive until demarcation is done again.
The IMC said that this time demarcation will be done in front of the residents.
18 quarters of IMC also to be demolished : The IMC would also demolish encroachments on the banks of Khan river. After removing encroachments in Shekhar Nagar, the IMC decided to remove its quarters located in Harsiddhi Nagar. There are as many as 18 quarters of IMC in the locality.
Some days back, the IMC had issued notices to the employees living in the quarters directing them to vacate the same. However, the employees are still residing in the quarters. Removal gang officer Virendra Upadhaya said that he had directed the inhabitants of the quarters to evacuate within 24 hours. The employees are being shifted to Bhuri Tekri.
