Indore : Indore Municipal Corporation has cracked the whip. On Thursday it initiated a drive to remove illegal hoardings from municipal limits.
The drive has been undertaken after the issue of illegal hoardings was raised in a review meeting of the IMC lately.
Removal gang of IMC led by deputy commissioner Mahendra Singh Chauhan removed illegal hoardings alongside MG Road on Thursday.
“We have started removing hoardings installed illegally on private buildings near Indraprast Tower and nearby areas,” Chauhan said.
He said that the IMC would intensify the drive in days to come and do away with all the illegal hoardings.
The issue was raised by Chandu Shinde, in-charge of general administration, IMC. He said that installation of illegal hoardings is a big menace.
“When I used to look after the department responsible in dealing with encroachments, I got nearly 75 percent of illegal hoardings removed. However, during the course of time, many more hoardings were installed illegally, especially on private buildings,” he said adding that when he brought the matter to the notice of Mayor Malini Gaud she immediately directed the removal gang to take down the illegal hoardings.
The IMC suffers loss of crores of rupees annually due to the installation of illegal hoardings. Every time, the IMC initiates drive against this menace, political pressure comes in and it has to stop the drive midway.
“This time, there will be no stopping on the issue,” Chauhan said.
