Indore : Indian Institute of Technology-Indore (IIT-I) has denied extension to Chief Engineer SP Raghunath, who was monitoring construction works of the institute’s campus in Simrol, apparently due to conflicts with Director Pradeep Mathur.
In an email to its employees, the IIT Indore said that the services of Raghunath have been “terminated” with immediate effect and his entry into the campus has been banned.
The employees were directed not to keep any kind of contact with Raghunath and suggested them to refrain from sharing any information of the institute with him.
Media In-Charge of IIT Indore, Nirmala Menon said that Raghunath’s contract term was over so he was relieved from the charge and rubbished the information that he was terminated. “His contract of two years got over on July 10, so he was relieved,” she said.
Sources in the institute claimed that Raghunath was given extension till 2018 but he was terminated midstream following dispute with the director. When confronted over the issue, Menon said that the advertisement released by the institute for appointment of the chief engineer stated that the contract would be for two years and it could be extended maximum five years.
“The institute did not give extension to Raghunath,” she added. Raghunath could not be reached for his comment. Raghunath has been relieved at the time when construction work of the IIT Indore is going on in full swing. The institute is still to appoint another chief engineer.
