Indore : The Water Works and Drainage Department of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) received a wakeup call in summers to fix the non-functional water hydrants and bore well across the city.

Balram Verma, In-charge of the department, along with a team is planning out to carry out the required maintenance works.

“The city has 27 water hydrants. Minor flaws have been noticed at some the locations and we are working on fixing the issues at the earliest possible. This is being done to avoid water crisis in summer,” Verma told Free Press.

He added, the team has a list and work on the same is being carried out. If the team receives any information about a hydrant or boring being non-functional, attempts are made to repair it at the earliest. Verma said, all the water hydrants are in working condition and no major flaw is noticed so far.

Flaws corrected

IMC workers repaired the the motor of the Sirpur area. Glitches in the tube well of Bilawali and other nearby areas were also sorted out. along with bore wells the Azad Nagar and Pipliapala.

Attempts to quench the thirst Verma said, the city is presently receiving 180MLD of water. In the times to come, another 180MLD from Choral dam would be added. This would increase the amount of water supplied to the city to 360MLD.

He said, last year, rise in ground water level was noticed as close to 95 per cent of the bore wells worked in peak summers, which was 50 per cent a few years ago.
