HC postpones Govt of rule, gives 4- wk relief for women

The decision came in response to a petition challenging the State Government’s order for making helmet compulsory in the High Court. Social workers Sadhna Dagde and Sanjay Mittal filed a petition through their counsel PK Shukla and MS Chuahan. After hearing the petition, the court served notices to the State Government and allotted a time period of four weeks for submitting reply in this regard. Until then, the enforcement of helmet rule has been postponed.

Petitioners claimed that they had filed a similar petition in 2011, requesting the court to exclude women, children and Sikh community members from wearing helmets. The court had ruled in their favour then and the petitioners are hopeful again for a favorable response.
