Army men attack on Vijay Nagar police
Indore : Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday issued notice to the Defence Ministry on a public interest litigation filed over an attack by Army personnel on Vijay Nagar police station in September last year.
While hearing the PIL filed by advocate Pramod Dwivedi, the court directed the Defence Ministry to reply within six weeks. Counsel of the petitioner, Manish Yadav said that earlier the court had issued notices to the State government and Defence Ministry.
“The government had filed its response, but not the ministry, so the court has issued notice to the latter again directing it to reply to the petition within six weeks,” he added.
On the intervene night of September 9 and 10, cops of Vijay Nagar police station had allegedly beaten up two Army men and brought them to the station for creating nuisance near Satya Sai Square in inebriated state.
A few hours later, several Army personnel in civil dress had barged into the Vijay Nagar police station and thrashed the policemen there. They also vandalised the police station and damaged vehicles parked on the station premises. More than 50 Army men were booked under different sections of the IPC in the matter.
Dwivedi had filed the PIL highlighting the incident stating that this was not the first time that the Army men had attacked the police in the city.
He requested the court to order an inquiry to establish the circumstances that lead to such incidents.
