Indore: A 25-year-old farmer committed suicide by hanging himself in Azad Nagar area, on Tuesday.What drove him to take such an extreme step is not known.However, his family members claimed that he was depressed as his crops were ruined in hailstorm. Police registered a case and started investigations.

According to Azad Nagar police, Amit Patel, a resident of Khati Mohalla, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling. The family members rushed him to a hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.Amit’s cousin Manoj Patel said that the deceased was survived by his wife and a 3-year-old daughter.

 “He had a farm at Double Chowki and his family was dependant on agriculture. He was quite depressed for the last few months as his crops were ruined in the hailstorm,” Manoj said adding “this could be the reason which led Amit to take the harsh step.”

Superintendent of Police (East) OP Tripathi said: “we didn’t find any suicide note from the scene and we couldn’t say about the exact reasons of suicide. We have started recording statements of the family members.”
