Guna (Madhya Pradesh): Under the campaign being run against illicit liquor sale, the local police arrested two persons on Saturday and seized illicit liquor worth
Rs 6 lakh that was smuggled from Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh. The smugglers intended to sell liquor at high prices taking advantage of lockdown as liquor sale isn’t allowed currently.
Guna Superintendent of Police Rajiv Kumar Mishra said a special team of police was formed after receiving information about arrival of large quantity of illicit liquor in Maruti Eco car (M 08 CA 9731) from Rajasthan via Fatehpur.
The police stopped the vehicle near Watavada village under Mrigwas police station area. The driver said his name is Singh alias Pappu, 50, resident of village Pipalheda under police station Mrigwas.
The police checked the vehicle and found 24 boxes with 1,152 quarters of County Club English liquor of Rajasthan state, 1,968 quarters of Royal Whiskey placed in 41 boxes. Thus a total of 3,120 quarters in 65 boxes worth Rs 3.12 lakh were seized. A case has been registered against them under Excise Act.
Accused Keval Meena is a notorious criminal against whom 5 cases including three cases of robbery in Chanchoda police station have been registered.
Meena told police that he smuggles liquor from Rajasthan in Guna, Rajgarh, Bhopal and Shivpuri districts of Madhya Pradesh. On Saturday, he along with Ramnarayan Meena, resident of Jhareda, brought liquor in a car. He said that between Mohammadpur and Vishatpur Road, liquor is hidden in Meena's farm.
On receiving this information, a police team reached the farm. A man there tried to run but was grabbed by police. He revealed his name as Ramnarayan, 40, resident of Jhadeda.
Police checked the bushes at the back of farm and found 53 boxes containing Rajasthan-made liquor that included 45 boxes of Chetak Classic whiskey and 8 boxes of whiteless vodka worth Rs 2.54 lakh. The police seized the stocks and registered case under Excise Act.
