Indore : Elections of the corporation would be held following a stay imposed on HC proceedings, on inclusion of 29 villages from the Apex Court. In the meantime, since the term of current council is expiring, there is a potential possibility that the state government would constitute a governing body to run day to day affairs of IMC.
According to the information received, the Mayor Krishna Murari Moghe’s term expires by January 10.
In absence of a Mayor, the state government needs to set a governing body to deal with the day-to-day concerns of the corporation. Meanwhile, if the sources are to be believed then, Mayor Moghe is planning to relocate himself from the allotted Mayor’s bungalow at the earliest.
What is a governing body?
A governing body is a constitution of political personalities, judges, IAS, or any official that is above secretariat level. It could have 3-5members including a chairperson and members. The governing body is generally formed for a period of 6 months, as per the constitution. MiC or councils would remain inactive during the body’s term. It would hold all the rights of the corporation. However, cancellation of any decision taken by the Mayor before is not under the ambit of the governing body.
