Indore: Famous environmentalist Padma Shri Kutty Menon who died after suffering a heart attack at around 7.45 am on Saturday was cremated with full State honours. His funeral procession started from his home located in Sanwaad Nagar and ended at Regional Park Muktidham, where his son Gopal Menon performed the last rites. Tehsildar Sudeep Meena presented floral tributes to him on behalf of the State Government.
A Gandhian, Menon was a Keralite, but he had settled in Indore. Throughout his life, he was involved in promoting organic farming. He received the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Award in 1989. The government honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in 1991. For a long time, he was associated with Kasturba Gandhi Trust of Kasturba Gram.
Menon had taken a pledge to donate his body. After the death on Friday, the family expressed their desire but the hospital management refused because of corona.
Chief Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over Menon's demise. Several other prominent citizens of the city have also expressed their condolences on his death.
