Five held plotting trader’s abduction

Indore : The Crime Branch team has nabbed an accused who conspired to kidnap a businessman for ransom from Bijasan area on Wednesday night. The branch team also arrested four criminals from UP who were to execute the kidnapping and ransom plan.

The Crime Branch officials received a tip off that one Anil Patidar of Ridhi-Sidhi, Khajrana had summoned four criminals from Ghaziabad, UP, through his acquaintance Rinku Verma of Ganeshpuri, Khajrana. The informer claimed that the four men have been lodged somewhere in the City.

The informer also told the officials that Anil Patidar owned and operated a warehouse in Dhani near Dhamnod with Shanti Patidar and suffered losses between Rs 50-60 lakhs.

The four criminals were here to execute a plan devised by Anil Patidar to kidnap a businessman from Dhamnod and cover his losses with the ransom money. Anil was hoping to raise Rs 8-10 crore as the said businessman owned a petrol pump, a school and other business interests. The gang was expected to gather in Bijasan area and leave for Dhamnod, the informer added.

A Crime Branch and Aerodrome Police team waited at the spot identified by the informer near Bijasan when an Alto car and an auto rickshaw arrived at the spot. Three men got down from the auto and went to Alto car.

The police closed in on the gang and one of the men managed to escape taking advantage of darkness while the remaining five men were nabbed by the police personnel after a brief chase during which both the police and accused sustained minor bruises.

The accused were brought to the police station and questioned. They were identified as Amit alias Bunty Fouzi (33), Bhushan Jat (31) and Sonu Jat (22) all residents of Ghaziabad, UP, Anil Patidar resident of Ridhi-Sidhi, and Yogesh Hanotiya resident of Ganeshpuri, in Khajrana. The escaped accused was identified as Shobhit Singh Deshwal (28) resident of Haridwar and a search is on for him now.

The police also seized a 12 bore pistol, 315 bore pistol, 14 cartridges and assortment of weapons, along with one leopard skin. The accused were booked under Sections 399, 402 of the IPC, Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and Section 51(1) of Wild Life Protection Act by the Aerodrome Police.

The accused from UP were part of Jatan Sirohi Gang, a notorious criminal of UP, Delhi and Haryana. Sirohi was killed in an encounter with UP police some years ago after which these members went independent.

It may be recalled that one Nitish Kanjar had murdered Raju Chouhan son of Kamlesh Chouhan, resident of Hoshangabad. Kamlesh was a friend of Sirohi and the accused had killed Kanjar in retaliation for Rs 10 lakh and were absconding since then.

During the questioning, the accused admitted to killing a man in Noida and Delhi in which one of their associates Monu Jat was arrested and lodged in jail presently. The accused, after the kidnapping, were planning to kill a sand trader on behalf of Rinku Verma.
