Indore : MGM Medical College is yet to get the donation of $1mn announced by Dr Anil K Sharma even after 10 months, thanks to the strict norms of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).

Due to long process for getting the money, the college administration has been waiting for the initiative taken by Dr Sharma to avoid the expenses and visits to New Delhi for getting permission from the government.

It is to be noted that Founder and president of Spine and Pain Centre in New York and alumni of MGM Medical College Dr Anil K Sharma committed to donate the money for upgradation of surgery department during a meeting with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in February, this year.

The CM had informed the people about the commitment through twitter. Dr Sharma came to the city in June and visited the medical college to check the facilities and requirements along with planning to use the money. However, no paper work had taken place and the matter has been put in cold.

However, Dean of MGM Medical College Dr MK Rathore said they were trying to get the committed amount as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Dr AD Bhatnagar said, “FERA norms are the hurdle in getting the amount as both the donor and recipient have to gone through a long procedure.”

Earlier, it was believed that Dr Sharma is an NRI but the situation turned complex when it was found that he has accepted the citizenship of the USA.
