Indore : After a long gap, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) department once again gearing up to take action against selling of adulterated food products.
The department will launch a campaign against vendors of vegetables and milk products initially. In the second phase of the campaign, the FDA officials will launch a crack down on shops selling spurious sweets and namkeen along with beverages.
According to Chief Food Safety Officer Manish Swami, the officers of the department were asked to take action against sellers of vegetables and milk products due rise in seasonal diseases in the city.
“Our target is to take about 40 samples of vegetables and milk products in a month but we will target those vendors who are selling unhygienic and stale products. The similar drive will also start before Holi,” he said.
Swami further added that the department was planning to collect at least 40 samples of beverages in three months as well. But they would complete the target within a month.
“As per the directions of Supreme Court, the food safety officers of each district have to collect at least 40 samples of cold drinks, lassi, butter milk and other beverages to ensure quality of products,” he said adding “We will complete the given target in just one month as it will take time for testing the samples at the laboratory.”
It is to be noted that the FDA along with the district administration took action against various shops and manufacturing units and seized a large amount of spurious food products about a month ago.
