Indore : Srijan Organisation here on Thursday launched e-rickshaw service from Bada Ganpati to Rajwada with a starting fleet of 4 vehicles. The rickshaw was flagged off by Guru Mauli at 9 am at Bada Ganpati.
E-rickshaw service will be available on the routes between Bada Ganpati, Rajwada, Vidhya daam, Jawar Marg, Sangam Nagar, and Scheme 51 (all colonies).
“The rising auto rickshaw charges are robbing people blind…conveyance is a part of everyday life. It should not be so costly,” Srijan Organisation member Manju Chouhan said. She elaborated that e-rickshaw is an excellent way to combat inflation while promoting sustainable development.
“E-rickshaw is not only eco-friendly but also economical,” Srijan Organisation founder Kamlesh Khandelwal said.
E-rickshaw fare will be Rs 15 less from Rs 20 charged by public transports including city bus and Tata magic, as it will charge Rs 5 for covering the distance from Bada Ganpati to Rajwada.
“E-rickshaw provides a safer and more comfortable option for people,” Khandelwal said, as he explained that women, who do not feel comfortable in crowded city bus or jammed Tata magic end up paying more than 50 bucks to auto drivers.
“The situation is worse for tourists…auto drivers successfully charge them Rs 70 to Rs 100,” Khandelwal added. On the basis of most frequently travelled places and distances in Indore, various locations were shortlisted for e-rickshaw routes.
