Indore : Adding more feathers to their caps, doctors of MY Hospital successfully performed the unicondylar knee replacement on a 58-year-old woman on Tuesday.
It was the first knee transplant with advance technique performed in any government hospital of the state. The same patient had also undergone total knee replacement about three months ago in the hospital.
According to HoD of Orthopaedics Department in MGM Medical College Dr Dinesh Sonkar, “The 58-year-old patient Noorjahan, resident of Tarana, had approached us with the problem of osteoarthritis and she was suffering from severe pain.”
He said that they administered unicondylar Oxford mobile bearing implant through microplasty.
“In this surgery, only the affected part of the knee was replaced, which also saves the patient from major incisions in surgery. The recovery time of the patient was less and she can now perform normal activities,” Dr Sonkar added.
The surgery was performed by the team of Dr Sonkar, Dr Deepak Mantri and Dr Laxman Banodha who were helped by Dr KK Arora, Dr Rashmi Pal, Dr Ravi Barde, Dr Dimple and Dr Kapil Khare.
