Verma says party should encourage young leaders

Indore: Annoyed over distribution of Rajya Sabha tickets, AICC secretary and MP Sajjan Singh Verma has said that the average age of party candidates selected for the Rajya Sabha is over 70 years. He said that the party should push its young leaders instead of the old ones.

While talking to media persons here at his residence on Tuesday, Verma trained his guns on Digvijay Singh and said the former chief minister was responsible for party’s debacle in the recent Assembly elections.

“ Not only Digvijay but all party candidates for the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, MP and Gujarat were responsible for party’s downfall during their tenures. The party must choose young candidates like Shobha Ojha and Arun adav for the Assembly,” he said.

Stating that Digvijay’s wish to contest the Lok Sabha elections a lie, Verma said that he himself approached the party high command to give him candidature for the election to the RS. “ He himself approached the party high command to be a candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections but overtly said that he wished to enter Parliament via Lok Sabha route,” he said. It is to be noted that Diggy has been attacked for the second time by his party leaders in last four days. Earlier, Jagdish adav had also spoken against him and faced the music.
