Gandhwani (Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh): The vaccination centre here is lagging behind in achieving its target. Only 553 out of 899 teachers have been vaccinated so far. Only 298 people who are above 45 years of age have been vaccinated in 16 days while only one received second dose.

In all, 1,846 have been vaccinated in 18 plus category against the given target of 113183 which is less than 1 per cent. In last 106 days, the figure of 5,500 was not crossed. According to Block Medical Officer Dr Puran Singh, the work of vaccinating 60 plus elderly people started from March 1.

The target was 16180, whereas from April 1, the target of 45 plus was 24835. Combining both the targets, the figure stands at 41015. Till May 5, 4933 people had been vaccinated. Only 381 people have been vaccinated in a month. By June 4, this figure reached 513.

The pace of vaccination is too slow in rural areas. In fact, the teachers have also not come forward for inoculation. On June 3, SDM Rahul Chouhan reprimanded education department for laidback approach.

As a result, education officer Veer Singh Rajput gathered teachers and 205 teachers were vaccinated on June 4. The employees of other departments are also negligent.

The only exception is revenue department whose all the staffers have been vaccinated including Kotwars.
