Sardarpur (Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh): Reeling under water shortage for past 5 days, the residents broke pots and bangles in the municipality premises on Saturday.
The poor people are forced to fetch water from hand pumps from far off places. The people who can afford, spend Rs 400 to Rs 500 per tanker to meet to their water needs.
Govindpura reservoir, the water lifeline of Sardarpur, has enough water. Water pipelines have also been laid through which water is supplied to Sardarpur and Rajgarh.
But despite having enough water, Sardarpur has been facing water shortage for 5 days as one of the motors conked out. In last 5 days, municipality could do little to replace the motor.
Angry with failure, former councillors and women residents Preeti Manish Srivastava, Reshma Parvez Lodhi, Shantibai, Manish Bairagi and Narendra Pargi, raised slogans against Chief Municipal Officer Chandrakant Jain and banged pots and bangles on the ground. They warned to launch sit-in for an indefinite period if their problem is not solved soon.
