Indore : Despite directions by the Indore bench of MP High Court to increase dog sterilisation cases, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) seems to be doing little as number of cases has still not crossed the 25-mark.
This was revealed in a report submitted by the Vet’s Society of Animal Welfare and Rural Development in the court. As per report, a total of 5,773 dogs including 3,018 female dogs were sterilised and immunised for anti-rabies from April 2014 to November 2014.
The IMC had been sterilising about 25 dogs a day even as the court, that is hearing a petition on stray dogs menace, is asking for enhance in sterilisation process.
The court has instructed to increase sterilisation cases to 50 by the end of this year and increase the number to 100 by March 2015.
With the present speed, it appears very unlikely for the IMC to achieve the target.
On Monday, the IMC also submitted a report of stray dogs and sterilisation activities in its 15 zones. It stated that 17,035 male dogs and 14,941 female dogs have been identified till November 19, 2014.
Earlier, the court had asked to complete the survey to chalk out a strategy to check the menace. The court was informed that nearly 10,000 dog bite cases took place in 2010, which rose to 16,000 in 2013 and till July 2014 nearly 11862 people fell prey to stray dogs.
