Katthivada: The production of ‘Noorjahan’ mango has been affected this time, due to the local weather. Although various other type of mangoes have also suffered due to storms, rain and winds, this specific variation is scarcely available. The ‘Noorjahan’ mango has won many awards due to its different shape and weight. It is produced by very few trees in the Katthivada region in the gardens of the previous rulers. Some of the seven trees have now become old and the other governmental and private attempts to raise these trees have failed.

A completely ripe Noorjahan mango can weigh upto 3Kgs and requires special care. Branches need to be supported due to the heaviness of the fruit. The mangoes also have to be covered by polythene for protection.
