Indore: In an unprecedented move, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya ( DAVV) has started the process to hold exams for BEd students of 2012- 13 batch even though their colleges have not been granted affiliations as yet.

Affiliations are granted ahead of the admissions but due to the lack of coordination between the DAVV and Department and Higher Education ( DHE), which allocates admissions in BEd colleges, the affiliation granting process has not only become a mess but also meaningless.

Mess because the admissions in the one- year course by the DHE are done in the beginning of the year and affiliations are granted by DAVV in the middle of the year.

And meaningless because the DAVV has to grant affiliations even if a college lack required facilities as the DHE had already given admissions in the college. That means the affiliation granting process does not hinge on the norms now.

This year, the university delayed the affiliation process to much longer period, to be precise to the end of the year. No college of 45 under it has been granted affiliation thus far. Even pre- affiliation inspections, which are done to review infrastructure, facilities and available faculties at the colleges, are not conducted this year.

As Supreme Court had directed the state governments to ensure that admissions for BEd course for session 2014- 15 begin by February 2, the university is under pressure to complete exams for 2012- 13 session before the said date so that new session begins in time. In runner up to that, it is reportedly overlooking affiliation process.

But not to forget, the results of 2011- 12 batch students are still awaited. If the university holds exams for 2012- 13 batch before releasing the results of 2011- 12 batch, students failed would not be able to appear in exams for 2012- 13 batch as ex- students.

“ We will release the results of 2011- 12 students before holding exams for the current batch,” exam controller KN Chaturvedi said. Take note: 2013- 14 is a zero year in the state for BEd programme.
