Indore : Much to the concern of BBA students, who appeared in the fifth semester exams in March and are waiting for their results, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalya (DAVV) has lost their answer sheets.

“Not all but about 15 answer books have gone missing,” a university officer admitted and said that they tried a lot to trace the missing lot at the Evaluation Centre for more than a month but to no avail.

According to information, the exams for BBA fifth semester had concluded in March. After the exams, the bundles of answer books were sent to teachers for evaluation.

The teachers returned the evaluated answer books to the DAVV within a month but the results were still not declared.

When students made a beeline for their results, they were returned on the excuse that the evaluation process was on.

However, the fact was, according to sources, the DAVV had lost about 15 answer sheets and a search for them was going on. When the Evaluation Centre failed to trace the answer sheets, it informed the university authorities about answer sheets of BBA course going missing.

Now, the university authorities are mulling over an idea to grant average marks to the students whose answer copies are lost.

“The matter would be kept before the examination committee that in turn would give its recommendation for granting average passing marks to the vice chancellor. In such cases, that’s the only process,” an exam department official said adding that the final decision over the matter, however, would be taken by the VC.

The official sidestepped a query whether names of aggrieved students would be disclosed or not.

This is not the first incident of answer sheets going missing from the DAVV. Previously also such incidents had taken place but the DAVV never learnt a lesson.

Still answer sheets are poorly handled at the Evaluation Centre.

More concerning is the answer sheets are handled by daily wage employees.

As per a government’s order, daily wagers can’t be engaged in classified works but at the DAVV, all classified works are on the shoulders of daily wagers.

Centralised system

To avoid incidents like losing of answer-sheets and improper handling of valuable documents, the DAVV had some years ago made it mandatory for teachers to come for evaluation work at its Centre on the UTD Campus. But Prof PK Mishra his tenure as VC changed the rule stating that the centralised evaluation system was actually causing delay in evaluation of answer books.

Students may miss MBA bus

Fearing to miss admission in MBA due to delay in their UG results, BBA sixth semester students met incharge exam controller Anil Sharma and requested him to speed up evaluation of answer sheets.  They informed Sharma that they have to complete all the formalities for admission in the MBA courses by July 18 and before that if their results of final semester results would not be declared them would miss admission in the PG course.
