DAVV aims at ‘Model Varsity’ status from State & ‘Potential for Excellence’ status from UGC

Indore : Not only in terms but also in achievements, the golden jubilee year of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) really struck gold. The DAVV achieved many feats in the golden jubilee year right from hosting Inter-University National Youth Festival to advanced level of Special Assistance Programmes (SAPs), Centre of Excellence Status for two of its teaching department to Rs 11.50 crore grants for sports facilities and in principal approval of Rs 20 crore to its proposal under RUSA.

As the university gears up to celebrate its 51st foundation day on Friday, DAVV Vice-Chancellor Prof DP Singh recounted the achievements made in 50th year and said that they were having fingers crossed for some more crucial projects.

“We are hopeful of getting Model University status from the state government and University with Potential for Excellence status from University Grants Commission. Besides, we have also sent proposals for community college and Kaushal centre to the UGC,” Singh said.

The laurels started flowing to the DAVV’s way in September last year with state government awarding Centre of Excellence to EMRC and School of Economics. Soon after that the Association of Indian University entrusted the responsibility of conducting Inter-University National Youth Festival on DAVV. The festival was held for the first time by the DAVV from February 12 to 16.

In October last year, the university received a sanction of Rs 11.50 crore for sports amenities from Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. Recently, foundation stone laying was performed for laying synthetic athletic track on the UTD campus.

In the same year, the DAVV was awarded four SAPs of the advanced level. The SAPs were awarded to School of Education, School of Life Sciences, School of Economics and School of Life Sciences. The UGC also found three more proposal of DAVV’s viable for the SAP and invited its representative to Delhi for giving presentation.

The DAVV’s proposal was also accepted recently and the MHRD gave in principal approval of Rs 20 crore under RUSA.

Recently, Lok Sabha Speaker during a programme said that the DAVV now deserved to be a Central university and she would push for it.   The university not only made a mark on the national level through its achievements but it also saw eminent personalities visiting its campus throughout the golden jubilee year.

President Pranab Mukerjee along with Chancellor Prof Ram Naresh Yadav, the Lok Sabha Speaker and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had visited to DAVV in June last year to attend the convocation ceremony. Union minister of sports and youth affairs Sarbananda Sonowal and UGC chairman Ved Prakash had also paid visits to the university.
