Indore : Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday admitted a petition filed by Keshav Dev, father of late IPS officer Narendra Kumar, who is seeking enhancement of imprisonment of the convict, who is allegedly responsible for untimely demise of his son. The court set hearing in the case for next week.

A special CBI court had convicted accused Manoj Gujjar in February 2013 for culpable homicide and awarded him 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment in connection with Kumar’s death.

Challenging the order of CBI court, Dev filed a petition through his lawyer Manish Yadav alleging that his son was killed intentionally and sought enhancement of sentence from 10 years to life imprisonment.

The CBI court in its order had stated that the IPS officer had climbed on the moving tractor-trolley of Gujjar, who was carrying illegally mined stones on March 8, 2012 in Banmore. During the action, the officer fell down and came under the rear wheel of the tractor-trolley. He was taken to a hospital in Gwalior where he succumbed to his injuries.

The court order had mentioned that murder was not intentional but the nature of the crime was very serious, thus Gujjar was convicted under Section 304 of the IPC.

He was also found guilty of stopping an IPS officer (Narendra Kumar) from performing his duty, and convicted him under Section 353 (obstructing government work) of IPC.
