Indore: Zero Tolerance Zone was started with much publicity from Saifi Sqaure at Jawahar Marg to Nandalalpura Sqaure from December 7. However, the local corporator woke up to the reality after three days. Exhibiting his great sympathy for the poor, he sprung into action and along with his ‘ men’ indulged in a heated argument with the DSP, forcing him to stop the drive on Sunday.
When DSP Pradeep Singh Chauhan and his removal officer Bharatsingh Chauhan were busy removing encroachments and illegally rigged up shops from the roads, corporator Ansaf Ansari jumped in and stopped the DSP from continuing his drive. The DSP tried his best to placate the leader, telling him that he was following the HC order and his ( Ansari’s) action would amount to defiance of court order. But the corporator ignored all his arguments and stopped the drive.
Ansari’s justification was that the poor traders were being evicted, their small shops and handcarts removed/ seized, and this would lead to poverty as they would be rendered without business. He said local leaders, people’s representatives should be taken into confidence before launching any such drive that hurt the interests of the poor who made their ends meet with these small roadside businesses.
