Indore : The Department of Higher Education (DHE) has reportedly decided to continue the probation period of 89 professors who were allegedly appointed in violation of norms in 2009.

In a meeting held at Bhopal, the DHE observed that it would be inappropriate to conclude the probation period of the professors until a complaint filed against their appointments is addressed.

NSUI leader Pankaj Prajapati, a self-acclaimed whistleblower of alleged recruitment scam, had lodged a complaint with the Chief Secretary lately following the order by the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Alleging that rules were overlooked in appointment of professors in the government colleges in 2009, Prajapati had filed a petition in the court that in turn directed him to lodge a complaint with the DHE into the matter.

Following the court’s order, he had filed compliant with the DHE last week. Prajapati had provided a list of as many as 89 persons who he had said were wrongly appointed on professor post in 2009.

He said that he had sought cancellation of their appointments and action against the officers involved in the irregularities.

Prajapati said that the professors in question did not have minimum 10 years of teaching experience from the date of award of PhD degrees to them.

“Principal bench of MPHC had ruled in a case that the candidate should have minimum 10 years of teaching experience for appointment of professor post. The appointments on the professor posts were not in accordance with this ruling of the court,” he claimed.

Lately a delegation of the professors had met the DHE and requested to regularize them with ending the probation period but now the DHE has put the matter in cold store.
