Indore: The Executive Engineer of PWD ( Bridge Cell) Anand Mishra said the collapsed overbridge was being constructed with modern technology where pre- fabricated hollow baskets are being used.

Mishra said that the bridge came down in Vshape and he talked to their Bangluru- based consultant about it. According to him, it seemed the bridge came down due to disturbance of the staging on which the pre- fabricated hollow baskets were spread. Mishra said that his staff had told him that a truck hit the cement pipes that were placed to prevent the entry of vehicles.

The staging was disturbed as the cement pipes hit the iron rods on which the platform was made. This led to the collapse of the bridge.

This bridge was being constructed with a different method. Instead of steel guarders, hollow baskets are being used to fill inside the high density wires. After 28 days of making the concrete, the high density wires are pulled out with hydraulic machine. “ When the borders are jammed, then the slabs are spread over it.

Since the slabs are not constructed yet, we can’t say that slab is fallen,” he said.Mishra said that the pulling of high density wires was to take place later.

“ In other words, instead of using the guarders, the high tension wires are being used here. We tried that, though it is the busiest square of the city, so we should use the guarders, but the drawing was older, hence we could not do anything,” he added.
