Indore : Residents of the city celebrated Christmas with religious fervour and gaiety on Friday. Not only members belonging to the Christian community but also people from other religions thronged churches here to offer their prayers on the holy occasion.
Special prayers were offered at White Church, Red Church and Arnold Church, Infant Jesus Church, and Presbyterian Catholic Church in Chhawani and other churches in the city. After prayers, people greeted each other with ‘Merry Christmas.’
Members of other communities also wished Christmas setting an example of communal harmony.
According to Raju C John, apart from prayers, confessions to seek pardon from the God were also made. He said that festivities started on the night of December 24 and added that the community celebrated Christmas throughout the day with sumptuous meals, carol singing and dancing to the tunes of DJs at various places in the city.
The city churches were painted in Christmas hues and numerous programmes were organised to celebrate the festival with much gay. The church choirs had crooned holy songs.
The highlight of the event, Midnight Mass was held after the clock stroke 12 on Thursday night. On Christmas Day, a morning mass was also held and a large number of participants took part in special prayers.
