Indore : Annoyed over not been appointed as Director of Directorate of Physical Education, Prof S K Yadav on Monday quit all administration responsibilities he has including headship of School of Physical Education (SPEDU).
In his resignation letter to Vice Chancellor Prof DP Singh, Yadav said that injustice was being done to him, so he won’t like to continue on any of the posts assigned to him.
He is head of SPEDU, chairman of Board of Studies and member of the Sports Board.
Yadav’s resignations from these positions have come at a time when Rs 11.30 grant has been offered to the DAVV for setting up Sports Hall and Synthetic Track of international standards on the UTD campus.
Senior professors of the university are linking Yadav’s resignations with the grant. They are saying that he wanted headship of both the SPEDU and the directorate, a wish which has not been granted by the VC so Yadav in fit of a rage resigned.
Yadav, however, said that his decision of putting in papers was not taken in haste or fit of a rage.
“Overlooking my seniority, a person junior to me (Prof Ajay Kumar) has been appointed director. This appointment has made my position awkward in the sports board of which I am a member in the capacity of head of SPEDU. He (Kumar) being director of Directorate of Physical Education would be chairman of the sports board and me mere a member. I don’t want myself in this position so I resigned in protest.”
Headship is awarded on rotation basis in teaching departments of DAVV. In SPEDU also, someday a junior teacher to Yadav would become head and chair faculty meetings of the department. Won’t your position be awkward then? “That’s a different case,” Yadav said sidestepping the query.
Not that only Yadav who is furious over appointment of Ajay Kumar, who is in third position of the seniority list of the SPEDU, but others in the department are also unhappy with the decision of the VC. A teacher said that the VC should have followed the seniority list while appointing director of Directorate of Physical Education.
Defending his move, the VC said that the rotation system is applicable for teaching departments of the university and not for Directorate of Physical Education.
“Directorship of Directorate of Physical Education is an additional responsibility which has to entrust upon some teacher after retirement of MI Qureshi. I found Ajay Kumar suitable for the post and appointed him.”
To a query on resignation of Yadav, the VC said that he had citied injustice as a reason for his resignation but not substantiated with any evidence what injustice was being done to him. “I will give him a chance to substantiate with proofs, the injustice being done to him.”
