Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Concerned over the couple of bus accidents that took place over the past few days, the district administration and regional transport officers have cautioned private school owners to use buses which fulfil all safety norms and standards for ferrying students.

Moreover, the officials also warned school owners that a criminal case would be registered against the school director along with the bus driver and cleaner if any mishap took place.

Regional transport officer Jitendra Raghuvanshi, at a meeting chaired by ADM Pawan Jain and deputy transport commissioner Sapna Jain at Residency Kothi on Wednesday, also informed bus operators about the guidelines set by the Supreme Court for school buses. The officials also appealed to all school bus operators to get their vehicles inspected failing which stern action would be taken.

“The transport department will initiate action against the school management concerned if they’re found using buses that don’t meet all the prescribed safety norms and guidelines,” Raghuvanshi said, adding that schools had been instructed to carry out proper maintenance and inspection of their buses before starting to use them for ferrying children.

“Apart from fitness, school buses should meet all safety norms and standards, including presence of first-aid kit, fire extinguishers, seat-belts, CCTV surveillance and GPS system, among others, as prescribed by the Supreme Court,” he said, adding that the department would launch surprise checks to ensure compliance with safety norms.

ARTO Archana Mishra was also present at the meeting.
