Indore : A brave minor girl came forward to stop her own child marriage on Thursday by informing women and child development department.
The marriage of Muskan (17), daughter of Rajiv Bhargawa, a resident of PC Sethi Nagar was scheduled for July 6 with Deepak Verma of Krishana Bagh. Deepak is also a minor. Interestingly, Muskan had filled the pledge form of not to participate in child marriage during a mass pledge held on April 30. Despite the pledge of Muskan, her parents had finalised her engagement with Deepak.
Chitra Yadav, project officer of women and child development, who played a prominent role in stopping the child marriage, told Free Press that two days ago Muskan had sent a message to their Aanganwadi worker informing about her marriage on July 6. She sent a request to stop her marriage. Yadav said “We did not want to create a scene on July 6, the scheduled date for marriage, hence we decided to stop it on four days early. We reached at her residence and convinced her parents not to go ahead for her child marriage citing the prohibitory laws.” Muskan’s mother Sushma told to team that she is also the victim of child marriage. Due to the unhealthy atmosphere of the locality she was going for the child marriage of her daughter. Later, Rajiv and Sushma was agreed to not indulge their daughter Muskan in child marriage.
