Indore: The Congress has accused its rival the BJP of breaching the Model Code of Conduct during its ‘ Jan Ashirwaad atra’ and using government resources for its poll preparations.

The party has registered a complaint with the District Election Officer ( DEO) mentioning several incidents of Code violations during the yatra which was ended in Indore on Sunday last.

Speaking to reporters, District Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja said: “ BJP built 1500 temporary stages at various places in six Assembly constituencies from where the yatra passed through. Although it received permission for only few, also the sizes of the stages were larger than the permitted ones.” Adding to this, he said, “ The loud speakers which were used had a direct connection from the electric pole and no authentic connections were taken from the electricity board, in addition to this the BJP flag and posters were put on the poles, which are in complete violation of the Model Code.”

Commenting on refurbishment of the roads, he said: “ The IMC is acting on the directives of the BJP and even constructing those roads which were not part of the yatra route. The IMC officials were working as if the yatra was of the State Government not of the BJP. Furthermore, numerous posters were put on both sides of the road as a salutation to the CM on his Jan- Ashirwaad atra, this caused disruption of traffic and is not acceptable to the Congress.” He concluded by stating that the ambience in the city on Sunday was not apt according to the Model Code of Conduct and the EC should look into the matter.
