Betel-nut trader, evading taxes in the garb of SAFTA, raided

Indore : The sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence along with the local Central Excise and Customs Department carried out raids at three locations of a betel nut trader who tried evading taxes in the garb of SAFTA agreements.

The trader imported betel nuts from other country but showed that he had imported these nuts from Pakistan. Under SAFTA agreements imports from Pakistan require less custom duty.

10 officers raided three locations including his Jawahar Marg based office and go down and Manik Bagh Road based residence of betel nut trader. The sleuths have recovered the large number of documents but amount of duty evasion could be ascertained after investigations are over.
