Indore : Two cases of medical negligence hit MY Hospital, on Wednesday. In one case, family members of an infant blamed the hospital staffers for swapping their baby while in another, the family members of an inmate alleged medical negligence for his death.
Relatives of a deceased infant created ruckus in the hospital after death and alleged that the hospital staff swapped their baby and handed them a dead child.
Infant’s father, Deepak Chavre, said that his wife Divya (22)had delivered a healthy baby at Government PC Sethi Hospital, on Tuesday morning.
“After an hour of delivery, the doctors referred the baby to MY Hospital with an excuse that he is having some problem in breathing. We admitted the baby in MY Hospital where doctors shifted him to the NICU,” Deepak said.
He further said the baby was healthy and the doctors also conducted an x-ray.
“Our baby had a birth mark on his right shoulder and he was healthy and was more than 2.2 kgs. On Wednesday morning, the doctors told us our baby is in deteriorating condition. After which we demanded to discharge him so that we can shift him to a private hospital. They refused to discharge the baby and later informed us about his death in the evening,” he said.
Grandmother of the baby, Chhaya said: “Our child had a birth mark on his hand but the baby, handed over to us, didn’t have any mark and he was low in weight as well.”
Family members lodged a complaint at Sanyogitaganj police station.
However, HoD of Paediatrics Department Dr Sharad Thora denied the allegations and said that every baby has a sticker in his stomach and there is no chance of baby swapping.
Investigation Officer Om Kishor Mishra, ASI said: “After the complaint of family members, we brought them to hospital to recognise their baby but they couldn’t do so. Our investigation is on.”
