Indore : Getting photographs clicked with a criminal in cosy postures cost two constables of Tukoganj police station dear on Monday when Superintendent of Police (East) served them notice for ‘showing criminals as friends’.

The constables had taken a photograph with the accused with arms around his shoulders. The arrested criminal was smiling ear-to-ear. The photograph spread like fire on virtual media with Whatsapp messages pinged to the DIG’s phone as well.

DIG SK Singh, who had maintained a no-nonsense attitude towards indiscipline, immediately asked his senior officials to take action.

The incident took place a few days ago when a team of Tukoganj police, comprising Head Constable Goyal and constables Sachin and Ravindra, nabbed a notorious criminal Chhotelal Parsi. He was evading arrest for the last 31 years.

After their commendable work, the constables got excited and they clicked various photographs with the criminal. In some they put their arms around Parsi; in others they were wearing civilian clothes and smiling with the accused.

The photographs were circulated on Whatsapp and one of the images landed on DIG Singh’s mobile phone with comments of police treating criminals as friends.

Taking cognizance on the photograph, Singh directed SP OP Tripathi to look into the matter and to take action against the constables.

Tripathi served a show cause notice asking them to explain how they got chummy with Parsi. He also warned them of disciplinary action.
