Indore : In a brazen attack on the BJP, its student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on Thursday alleged that Bhanwarkua police had cane charged its activists at the instance of some leaders of the saffron party.

“The police informed us that some BJP leaders had directed them to cane-charge the ABVP activists protesting against inaction on a group of students of Atal Behari Vajpayee Government Arts and Commerce College that opposed our membership drive on the campus,” ABVP leaders Sachin Sharma and Rohin Rai told reporters here.

Asked why they didn’t raise the issue within the family, BJP is the parent body of the ABVP, Rai said that the ABVP is an independent organisation and talks through public forums.

It is to be noted that the activists of ABVP had gone to carry out membership campaign at GACC on Saturday but were pushed out of the campus by a group of students supported by the BJYM.

Over the issue, the ABVP activists had staged a protest at Bhawarkuna police station demanding an FIR against the college students, who played spoilsport to them.

On Monday, the activists attempted to shut down the college over the matter but to no avail.

They then staged a road blockade forcing the police to lathi-charge them.

Irked over police’s action, the activists demanded suspension of Bhawarkuna police station in-charge Pradeep Ranawat, action against CSP Aditya Pratap Singh and transfer of GACC principal SL Garg.
