Indore : Avoiding traditional diet of pulses and dairy products is the prime reason behind alarming rise in patients with protein deficiency. A recent study states that at least 80 per cent Indians are suffering from protein deficiency and the experts also support the survey report. “According to a recent survey conducted by Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB), over 80 percent Indians face protein deficiency.

The survey also stated that three-fourths of the population was not even aware of ideal amount of protein, which should be consumed and only one-tenth of them had the perfect protein diet,” Dr Ritika Samaddar of Max Healthcare said.

She said that protein deficiency reduces ability of the brain, which further aggravates conditions like learning disability, poor memory and delayed responses to sensory actions like sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. Per day, our body needs 1 gram for every kilo of our weight, and anything less than this can lead to negative consequences if not treated on time.

Meanwhile, Director of Total Diabetes Dr Sunil M Jain said, the survey report might have taken such sample but the condition is really alarming.

“In today’s scenario, youngsters don’t take traditional food like pulses and dairy products and they run after junk food due to which they don’t get proper supplements for the body and leads to lack of protein,” Dr Jain said.

The experts said that proper diet of protein is essential for children’s growth as it builds immunity and helps recover from illnesses faster. It also helps in developing red blood cells in the body and accelerating muscle growth.
