Indore : In a bizarre incident, calling a dog – ‘a dog’ – and not by the name given to the canine, led to a riot-like situation in Aerodrome area which left five persons, including a woman, injured on Friday.
The situation developed in Shriram Nagar-Kasam Colony after some bystanders intervened when one Santosh Laskhari beat a stray dog with a stick. Lashkari, who was under influence of alcohol, was retaliating to the stray dog for picking up a fight with his pet dog.
The stray dog was grievously injured and was bleeding from an eye, when the onlookers tried to stop Lashkari. In the melee, one of the residents called his pet dog – a dog in Hindi. Lashkari, who took the words as an insult to his loved pet, retaliated and attacked the speaker.
As the argument escalated and became physical, Santosh’s son and his friends, who were loitering nearby, joined the fight.
Santosh, with his new-found support, used sticks to attack the crowd. His son and friends pelted stones at the residents. The residents also retaliated by pelting stones at Santosh’s house. Five persons were injured in the commotion. A woman was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition.
The situation calmed down when a team from Aerodrome police rushed to the spot and gained control over the crowd. The police registered cases against both groups for rioting and arrested four persons, including Santosh.
