Indore : A woman was informed over her mobile that she was the luck lottery winner of Rs 25 lakh and required only Rs 20,000 to pay as Income Tax in advance to avail winning amount.  The woman believed the anonymous caller and paid the amount.

The caller collected Rs 1.14 lakh more from her till she realised that she was being cheated and approached the police.

The police claimed to have arrested three persons who had cheated the woman, Bhavna Nayak of Krishnabagh Colony.

The arrested persons were identified as Vikas Gupta of Satna, Rakesh Kushwah and Mukesh Kushwah of Rewa.

According to police, Bhavana had received a phone call some months back from an anonymous person who claiming to be an official of a company put Rs 1 crore in a lucky draw.

Bhavna was told that she was one of the lucky winners and her winning amount was Rs 25 lakh. She was told that to avail the winning amount, she needed to pay Rs 20,000 Income Tax in advance.

Bhavana was given a bank account number in which she deposited the said amount. Later, she was asked to pay Rs 25,000 to file processing fees, which she deposited in the account. On other excuses, more amount was sought from her in instalments.

When she paid a total of Rs 1.34 lakh but did not get the winning amount and the accused demanded more money for the release of lottery amount, she smelled rat and approached the police only to learn that she was cheated by the accused.

The police took the bank account number in which she deposited the amount and on basis of it reached to Vikas and later to Rakesh and Mukesh.

The trio, however, denied their involvement in the case and said that they do not know who and why she deposited amount in their account.

The police are searching for three more persons– Ajay, Rajkumar and Satyam in the case.
