Indore : State government’s ambitious Hariyali Mahoutsav kicked off today in Indore where more than of 3.95 lakh saplings were planted on Thursday.

Plantation drives continued in all the districts of the state as well, as the state government has aimed to plant 1 crore saplings in a single day. The state government next plans to register this massive plantation drive in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Minister for Urban Administration, Kailash Vijayvergiya planted the saplings in a number of places including City Forest which is being developed on 7 Hectare land in Scheme No 78 by IDA. He also planted saplings in green belts shortlisted by the IMC. Mayor Krishna Murari Moghe, District Collector Aakash Tripathi, MLA Mahendra Hardia, DAVV vice chancellor DP Singh, additional collector Ravindra Singh, SDM Alok Kumar Singh and other dignitaries too present on the occasion.

Vijayvergiya later informed reporters that the ambitious City Forest will be named as Maa Kankeshwari Van Vihar. He also informed that an exhibition centre will also be constructed in Vijay Nagar area of the city.

District Collector Aakash Tripathi along with his subordinates also planted saplings in the premises of administrative complex.

He also planted saplings of neem, and other fruits at Janapav hillock. The forest department officials too planted saplings at Kasturba Gram, Scheme No 140, Malhar Aashram, Sirpur Lake and other government premises shortlisted for the purpose.

Mayor Krishna Murari Moghe led the campaign where he initiated plantation of 50 saplings at Malhar Aashram premises, and then turned towards M Hospital premises where he inaugurated the drive where 150 saplings were planted under the aegis of Lions Club International.

650 saplings at City Forest at Bicholi Hapsi and 150 saplings at Government Maharani Lakshmibai Girls Degree College were planted under his leadership.

Later Moghe and IMC Commissioner Rakesh Singh led the drive to plant saplings at City Forest spread over seven acres of land near Sirpur Lake.

Pipaliyahana, Radison Square, Eastern Ring Road, Musakhedi, Dastar Garden, Sirpura Lake, Bilawali Lake etc were also some locations where saplings were planted.
