Indore : Though recent intermittent rains brought relief to the citizens from the sultry weather, the erratic weather conditions resulted in the rise of many diseases like viral fever, infections, malaria, cough and cold, conjunctivitis etc.

In last the few days, most of the city hospitals recorded marked increase in the number of patients with these problems. On Wednesday, two more dengue patients were tested positive raising the figure to 27.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Shantilal Porwal said, “Positive tested patients are identified as a 20-year-old male from Nagpur and a 25-year-old male from the city.”

Both the patients have been discharged in good health from the hospital. The Nagpur based youth had fallen ill in his hometown and was treated in Indore.

Meanwhile, experts have appealed to people to save themselves from seasonal diseases also, along with dengue and swine flu.

Dr Mahendra Jha said: “These diseases are infectious and it can spread from one person to another. The weather conditions have also increased eye infection and viral fever.”

Mosquitoes also play their part in causing dengue and malaria. Water-logging in many areas of the city also helps in breeding mosquitoes. Several cases of malaria were reported in the city hospitals.

Dr Anup Dubey of District Hospital said the number of malaria patients in the city would increase when the sky becomes clear.
