Were also fined for keeping excess opium husk

Indore: The NDPS court sentenced a trader and his servant to 10 year Rigorous Imprisonment ( RI) and slapped Rs 1 lakh fine each in a case stockpiling more than permitted quantity of opium husk in 2005. Trader Abhay Kumar Jain, a resident of Scheme no 71, and his servant Bharat, a resident of Ratlam, have been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment along with Rs 1 lakh penalty for flouting the norms of the Excise Department.

It is noteworthy that the Excise Department had carried out surprise inspection of the shop in Niranjanpur in 2005.The trader had license for keeping opium husk to the tune of 50 quintals at a time. But during inspection, additional 1564 kg opium husk was found, which was over the permitted limit. Due process of investigation was followed and finally, Special Judge PK Sinha of the NDPS court awarded the sentence to the accused.
