Sugarcane and green grass would be cultivated within zoo premise

Indore: After a year of struggle, the IMC is ready to bring 10 new Chitals (Axis Deer) to Kamla Nehru Prani Sanghralaya (City Zoo). The deer would be brought from Van Vihar, Bhopal and preparations are being done by the zoo authorities to bring them properly, said an official on Tuesday.

As per information, the city zoo already has 23 chitals, which are found to be 25-year-old and hence reproduction problems are becoming an issue. To overcome this, Mayor KM Moghe directed the officials to bring new chitals from Bhopal. It is found that recently, Van Vihar authorities gave permissions to provide 10 chitals to the Indore Zoo which would be easily seen in the city zoo soon. It is found that the central zoo authority already gave permissions for the same.

In-charge of zoo, Dr Uttam Yadav said that, new Chitals are being brought to the city zoo with the motive to increase their population by means of reproduction. He added that this would add new blood and genes to the breed.

Dr Yadav further said that the zoo would soon cultivate sugarcane and green grass of it own in the premise which would benefit the animals. He said that, earlier the zoo authorities had to purchase sugarcane and grass from the market which used to cost around 10lakhs. He added that this experiment would surely be beneficial as the animals would get fresh green grass and sugarcane for their consumption. A tractor would also be purchased by the authorities for the purpose and tenders for it are being invited.
