Stretching the watchman analogy further, PM Modi on Sunday changed the title of his Twitter account to ‘Chowkidar Narendra Modi.’ The renaming came a day after PM Modi launched ‘Main bhi chowkidar hoon’ campaign on Friday. Amit Shah lost no time in renaming his Twitter handle, too, — to ‘Chowkidar Amit Shah’.
Soon, social media was swamped with ‘chowkidars’ with several Union ministers and BJP leaders, including Piyush Goyal, JP Nadda, Harsh Vardhan and Dharmendra Pradhan, quickly prefixing the honorific to their names on Twitter accounts. As it customary, the Congress found mirth in the change of title and Congress President Rahul Gandhi took on PM Modi. ‘‘You can keep trying Mr Modi, but the truth cannot be smothered.
Every Indian is saying it,” Gandhi tweeted with the hashtag “Chowkidar Chor Hai” (watchman is a thief). “P.S: Do force Sushma ji to add “Chowkidar” to her handle. It’s looking very bad,” he added.
You can keep trying Mr Modi, but the truth cannot be extinguished.
Every Indian is saying it. #ChowkidarChorHai
P.S: Do force Sushma ji to add “Chowkidar” to her handle. It’s looking very bad.

The reference was to Union ministers Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman who added the prefix later in the day. PM Modi congratulated the converts. “My best wishes to all of you chowkidars. Very pleased with your enthusiasm.
https://t.co/UUwLbfooT4

Owing to your watchfulness corruption is on the wane and thieves are feeling the pain,” his post read. Incidentally, the ‘Main Bhi chowkidar’ campaign launched on Saturday resulted in some of PM Modi’s tweets going to fake accounts – one of them in the name of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi.
Is Nirav Modi Chowkidaar??? He ran away with Public Money pic.twitter.com/CVnZLQoa5b
