Jamshedpur: Operations at public sector banks were badly hit in East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand as employee unions went on a two-day nationwide strike from today to press for a wage revision.

All banks in the Kolhan region comprising of the industrial and mineral-rich districts of East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan downed their shutters.

Employees staged dharnas in front of their banks to mount pressure in support of their demands.

The strike is 100 per cent successful as no transaction is taking place in any bank, R A Singh, convenor of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Jharkhand, told PTI.

The strike was likely to cause a loss of Rs 3,000 crore in the state, including Rs 250 crore per day in Jamshedpur circle alone, Singh claimed.
