New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday reactivated the Rafale scam, alleging that Prime Minister Modi was in a tearing hurry to sack reinstated Central Bureau of Investigation chief Alok Verma to cover up the alleged scam in the jet aircraft deal. He tweeted: “Why is the PM in such a tearing hurry to sack the CBI chief?” “Why will he not allow the CBI chief to present his case in front of the selection committee? Answer: Rafale.”
Congress leader Anand Sharma, in turn, said, “If there was nothing to hide, then CBI director should have been allowed to complete his tenure. We still demand an independent probe of the entire episode that unfurled on the night of October 23-24.” Sharma was referring to the midnight CBI ‘coup’ that took place in October 2018 when Verma was sent on forced leave by the government in a late-night controversial order.
