Kolkata: Political slugfest started in Bengal soon after a truck and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy collided at East Midnapore on Friday.
While BJP claimed that the accident was ‘intentional’, TMC said that they are not behind it.
State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar claimed that the incident should have a proper probe as such an action on Leader of Opposition is not expected.
It can be noted that Adhikari’s convoy’s last car collided with a truck while Adhikari was on his way to inaugurate Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra. Though no one got injured, the truck driver fled from the spot.
TMC state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that they pray for ‘Suvendu Adhikari’s long life’.
“We never want any physical harm to Adhikari as we want him to go to jail for being involved in the Saradha ponzi scam and Narada bribery case. We want to see him running pillar to post as the opposition leader for which he will have to stay fit,” said Ghosh.
In 2010, when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the Opposition leader, she also faced a similar accident in Kolaghat while returning from Lalgarh during the erstwhile Left Front government.
However, taking to Twitter, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari had stated that he along with those who were accompanying him were ‘unhurt’.
“A heavy vehicle rammed into a CRPF escort car of my convoy. By the grace of Lord Jagannath nobody was hurt. I am not injured & would continue attending scheduled events. I am grateful for the innumerous calls enquiring about my well being & would assure everyone that I am fine,” mentioned the LoP.
Condemning the incident, political analyst Biswanath Chakraborty said, “The police normally have the route map of the way that will be taken by the Leader of Opposition. Such an act is shameful.”
